Celebrity Portrait: Marilyn Monroe
Arguably one of Warhol’s most renowned portraits was that of Marilyn Monroe. Created in 1962, shortly after
Monroe’s heartbreaking death, Warhol released not just one, but a series of paintings featuring the late actress. Using
a silk screen printmaking process, in which he would often repeat an image several times on one canvas, Warhol produced
Monroe’s imagine in a string of different multi-colored prints. To Warhol, Marilyn Monroe was synonymous with Hollywood.
The sex-goddess icon was the very epitome of everything Warhol admired.
